Apartments & duplex units with a community room over a basement carpark
This project was completed in the Autumn of 2009. It consists of fifty apartments, duplex units and a community room over a basement car park. The project was initiated by Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council and sold to NABCO/CHI who engaged eml to develop the design and oversee the project to completion.
The building is planned in the shape of a ‘lozenge’ with landscaped internal courtyard that offers individual, own door access to all the units. The design of the scheme was prompted by the restrictive nature of the site, which is triangular with a 5 metre cross fall to a stream that forms the eastern boundary.
The scheme was funded under the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Capital Funding Scheme for the provision of rental accommodation by housing bodies and was designed with close attention to DoEHLG’s guidance, in particular ‘Quality Housing for Sustainable Communities’.
