Drumcondra House, Dublin City University, All Hallows College

In 2014 eml oversaw the first phase of an extensive programme of improvements with the intention that the building would become an administrative centre of excellence for the whole campus.

Drumcondra House was designed by Edward Lovett Pearce and dates from 1726. It is one of the finest examples of early Georgian architecture in the country and is a central building within the All Hallows Campus. In 2014 eml oversaw the first phase of an extensive programme of improvements with the intention that the building would become an administrative centre of excellence for the whole campus.

In practical terms this entailed extensive building fabric repair, improving universal access and fire safety and completely new general and I.T. services. While the completed project offers an inviting, well serviced work environment, the college were highly aware of historic importance of Drumcondra House and the refurbishments were pursued sensitively according to best practice in building conservation. In that sense the philosophy of doing ‘as little as possible and as much as necessary’ applied to every aspect of the work.
